LAB Facilities
Laboratory: Rodolphe Merieux Laboratory
Rodolphe Merieux Laboratory, Bangladesh of BITID was inaugurated on 9th April’ 2015 by Mr. Engineer Mosharraf Hossain MP, Honourable Minister of Housing & Public Affairs of Govt of the people’s Republic of Bangladesh & Mr. Alain Merieux, President of Fondation Merieux.
The laboratory is a donation from the Fondation Merieux to the people of Bangladesh, as part of a MOU between the Foundation and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Gov. of Bangladesh. All over the world there are about fourteen laboratories donated by Fondation Merieux. Rodolphe Merieux Laboratorty, Bangladesh is one of them.
Fondation Mérieux is an independent family foundation situated in Lyon, France. It was established in 1967 by Docteur Charles Mérieux, in honour of his father Marcel Mérieux, student of Louis Pasteur and founder of the Institut Mérieux in 1897. It was awarded official charitable status in 1976. The Fondation has dedicated over the generations for passing on their vision of serving public health worldwide. Fondation Mérieux has played a unifying role catalyzing initiatives with the common goal of fighting infectious diseases worldwide.
The laboratory has a state of the art facility of 250m2, which includes a Biosafety Level 2(BSL2) & Biosafety Level 3(BSL3) microbiology laboratory in conjunction with a general biochemistry laboratory and a molecular biology laboratory. The main idea behind constructing the lab was to make it as a reference laboratory for the whole country.
The laboratory design is based on the ISO- 14644 Part 4 & 1. ISO-14644 part 4 standard is for design and construction. ISO- 14644 part 1 standard is for classification of air cleanliness by particle concentration.
The rational of Rodolphe Merieux Laboratorty (RML) is to give Chittagong regional health system the capabilities to enhance its diagnostic capabilities.
Mission and Vision of Rodolphe Merieux Laboratorty (RML)
